Claude-Alain Margelisch

Claude-Alain Margelisch (1963), Attorney-at-Law and Notary, CEO of the SBA

After completing his legal studies at the University of Berne, Claude-Alain Margelisch qualified as an attorney-at-law and notary and worked in a law firm until 1993, when he then joined the Swiss Bankers Association. Before taking up his post as CEO on 17 September 2010, Claude-Alain Margelisch was the SBA’s Deputy CEO and responsible for International Financial Markets.

August Benz

August Benz (1969), Dr. rer. publ. HSG, Head Private Banking and Asset Management, Deputy CEO of the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA).

In 1999, August Benz started as a strategic consultant at UBS in the bank’s Corporate Center and starting in 2006, held various management positions at UBS Asset Management. Benz, who has a Ph.D. in political science, was most recently Head Client Servicing, with global responsibility for the establishment and implementation of client servicing standards across all regions, channels and customer segments. He has a proven track record in the banking business and is well-acquainted with the various aspects of financial market regulation.

August Benz has been Head Private Banking and Asset Management since July 2017 and Deputy CEO of the SBA since December 2017.

Rolf Brüggemann

Rolf Brüggemann (born 1961) lic. iur., Attorney-at-law and LL.M., Head of Tax, Legal & Compliance and Regulatory, Member of the Executive Board of the SBA

Rolf Brüggemann has longstanding professional experience in the areas of supervision, legal, and compliance in the domestic and international financial sector. Before joining the SBA, he served for five years as a Member of the Executive Board of the Financial Market Authority of Liechtenstein as Head of its Banking Division. Prior to this, Rolf Brüggemann held management roles in the legal and compliance departments of the two big Swiss banks UBS AG and Credit Suisse AG for around ten years at each institution.

Since 2016, Rolf Brüggemann has been a Member of the Executive Board and Head Retail Banking and Capital Markets at the Swiss Bankers Association. Rolf Brüggemann studied law at the University of Zurich, is an Attorney-at-law, and received an LL.M. in European Legal Studies from the University of Exeter (UK).

Philipp Halbherr

Philipp Halbherr (1952), Dr. oec. publ., Head of Retail Banking and Capital Markets, Member of the Executive Board of the Swiss Bankers Association

Philipp Halbherr is a Member of the Executive Board and has been responsible for the Retail Banking and Capital Markets business areas since April 2017. The former Member of the Executive Board of Zürcher Kantonalbank and former Member of the Board of Directors of SIX Group AG holds a doctorate in economics and has longstanding and far-reaching management and practical experience in various areas of banking. Philipp Halbherr, who at Zürcher Kantonalbank most recently led the business unit Institutionals and Multinationals, is not only highly familiar with the banking environment and financial market infrastructure, but also has first-hand knowledge of the multifaceted regulatory environment.

Nicolas Hug

Nicolas Hug (born 1966), lic. rer. pol. (Masters in Business Administration and Economics), Human Resources Manager (SKP), Head Operations, Member of the Executive Board of the SBA

Nicolas Hug has extensive practical experience in Human Resources and procurement, as well as in the financial sector. Before joining the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) in 2016, he headed two big municipal administrative authorities. He has held a number of leadership roles in private industry including in the pharma and financial sectors, as well as in the service industry. His previous positions include overall responsibility for Human Resources at Messe Schweiz, a role he held for several years, and Head Sourcing Marketing & Communications at Novartis Pharma AG. Nicolas Hug graduated from the University of Basel in 1996 with a degree in Business Administration and Economics, with a specialisation in Marketing, Human Resources and Social Policy. From 2000 until 2002, he pursued higher education training in Human Resources and received certification as a Huma Resources Manager from the SKP (Swiss higher educational courses for Human Resources Management).
Nicolas Hug is married and the father of five daughters. He lives with his family in Hochwald (Canton Solothurn).

Silvan Lipp

Silvan Lipp (born 1982), Dr. phil., Head Communications & Public Affairs, Member of the Executive Board of the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA).

Silvan Lipp has been Head Communications & Public Affairs and a Member of the Executive Board of the SBA since July 2017. In the five years prior to this, he held senior roles at UBS AG in the Public Affairs department, most recently as Deputy Head Governmental Affairs Switzerland. Before joining UBS, Silvan Lipp worked at Economiesuisse and led a number of campaign projects, among others in the Communications department. Silvan Lipp studied history, economics and German literature at the University of Fribourg, and obtained his PhD for his thesis on the history of Swiss economic policy.
